Often, the difference in a breast lift and a breast reduction is the amount of breast tissue that is to be removed in addition to the reasons for the surgery. Both procedures reposition the nipple upward and remove excess fat and skin from the breasts. A breast reduction reduces the overall size of the breasts and lifts the breasts. A breast lift lifts the breasts. A breast lift patient may choose to reduce the size of her breasts or may choose to lift and increase the size (with implants) of her breasts.
